Music Lessons & Programs

Come Children Sing Institute

The Come Children Sing Institute has just launched Come Children, Sing! Online Music Classes for infants, babies and toddlers. Moms from all over the world, with or without musical background, can sign up their little ones for an online music class in their own homes, on their own schedules, and make the class portable with an iPod or CD. They do not have to cart baby, diaper bag, stroller, and toddler to class in inclement weather or during naptime, nor miss classes for illness or travel. Come Children, Sing! is based on more than twenty years of research on music learning. Free Sample Lessons are available at www.comechildrensing.com

Home School Resource Center Jazz Orchestra

Wednesdays, from 3:50p- 4:450p
Family of Faith Church
6645 W. Steger Rd.
Monee, IL 60449

The HSRC Jazz Orchestra seeks to be a creative Christ-honoring culture, developing students through dynamic performance opportunities, curriculum activities, and improvisational development and coaching. The band exposes homeschool students to an outstanding library of graded literature serving both sight-reading and repertoire criterion. Playing in this type of group assists musicians in musical independence, as we usually play one person per part.

Students should have at least 1 year of musical experience. This group is open to all ages, including adults, who are interested in learning to play in the swing, jazz, Latin idioms, and improvise. This is a unique performance group, and one of the few home school jazz orchestras in existence.

A $25 fee per semester would cover all books and materials (discounts for multiple students from the same family—scholarships are also available).

Performances are scheduled throughout the year, including a winter and spring concert, performances at retirement homes, etc.

Visit our Facebook page at: HSRC Jazz Orchestra

I have been a music educator and performer for 25 years, and have taught elementary, junior high, and high school bands in public and private schools.

Midwest Homeschool Fine Arts

Midwest Homeschool Fine Arts, now in its thirteenth year, offers quality instruction on the arts. We offer the following musical opportunities:

  • Childrens Chorus (grades 4-7) - Focus is on learning to read music and part-singing; also some music theory and history
  • Concert Chorale (grades 8-adult) - This class stresses proper vocal technique and diction; we perform classical, sacred and novelty numbers
  • Bands (grades 4-adult) - Two levels of band are offered; repertoire ranges from sacred and novelty numbers to calssic band literature.
  • Tonechimes (grades 4-adult) - Similar to handbells, this group is good for students who read music and would like an ensemble experience.
  • Orchestra (grades 4-adult) - Two levels are offered for those who play violin, viola, cello, string bass and harp; literature ranges from standard orchestral works to sacred and lighter numbers.

Each group performs at least two concerts a year. Private lessons on many instruments are also available.

We also offer two drama groups:

  • Young Thespians (grades 4-7) - Students learn basic acting techniques and present at least two plays per year.
  • Classic Players (grades 8-12) - This class focuses on continuing improvement in basic acting techniques and character development; this group presents two plays a year, usually based on great works of literature (including Shakespeare) Class size is limited and auditions required for participation.
