HSRC Athletic Program Mission Statement and Purpose

Mission Statement
This organization and its leaders are committed to God's Word and His principles. We seek the participation of families who share this commitment to God's Word and to homeschooling.

Believing that the family is the primary source for training and teaching, we seek to help, support, encourage and meet the needs of home school families by providing opportunities to participate on sports teams. Also, because we believe that parents are ultimately responsible for the education of their children, and that athletic programs are part of the educational process, the HSRC is governed by a parent board. Our desire is to build Godly character through competition and team work, encourage Christian conduct and attitude, and strengthen any ability. We believe that God has given us physical gifts to develop and use to bring Him glory. We believe that sports are an excellent opportunity for spiritual, emotional and social growth.

Policies:
Programs will depend on coach and facility availability, and student interest. Efforts will be made to schedule appropriate competition as close as possible to Monee, IL but most of the competitions will require travel. The board will give final approval of new sports, coaches and facilities.

Participation in a sport counts as PE class credit(s). High school athletes have 4 years of athletic eligibility once they are declared a high school student. (Ex. An 8th grader playing on a high school team will not use any of his or her 4 years of high school eligibity.)

All participants must be a part-time or full-time homeschooler. National and state competitors (we may compete at these levels for basketball and girl's volleyball) must be at least 50% homeschooled and meet are requirements. If an athlete takes 18 or more college credit hours of classes in a year, participates in a highschool graduation ceremony or gets married he/she cannot compete at the National Home School Championships.

Homeschool High School Baseball

Attention high school age baseball players. There will be a homeschool high school baseball team this Spring for young men, ages 14-18. This is a program for experienced baseball players - not for beginners. We are attempting to schedule games against public school JV teams, smaller Christian schools and other homeschool teams (if any can be located). We presently have 11 players on our roster and have room for a few more. The team will be based out of the Crete-Monee area. Indoor practices will begin in February at the Diamond Sports Academy in Mokena (2xs per week). Once the weather breaks, the team will practice 3-4 times per week.

The team will be coached by Brian DeCook, Larry Skrobot and Don Gordon. If you are interested, please contact Mr. DeCook at 708.259.4558 or bdecook@fca.org

Homeschool Skating Program

My name is Christy Wronkowicz and I am the new skating director at Midwest Training and Ice Center in Dyer, Indiana. I am very interested in starting a homeschool program here at the rink, as we had a well attended homeschool program at some of the rinks I taught prior to here. (christinask8er08@yahoo.com) or via phone at 219-558-8811, I would love to discuss this program more with you.

This special daytime ice skating class is designed to enhance the curriculum of homeschoolers ages 6+. Classes take place during our mid-day public skate and include a 45 minute lesson and 45 minutes of practice time. Lessons will be grouped by age/skill level and will focus on fundamentals of learning how to ice skate (physical fitness) supplemented with learning that extends outside the traditional classroom (basic laws of physics, movement, rhythm, and music). This exploration of learning uses the human body as the subject and ice as the medium.
