Midwest Homeschool Fine Arts
Midwest Homeschool Fine Arts offers quality instruction on the arts through the following opportunities:
Children’s Chorus (grades 4-7) – Focus is on learning to read music and part-singing, as well as some music theory and history
Concert Chorale (grades 8-adult) – This class stresses proper vocal technique and diction. We perform classical, sacred, and novelty numbers
Bands – Two levels of band are offered (adults are welcome to play):
Cadet Band – entry level – middle of first book of a band method (check with director if not sure)
Concert Band – for more advanced players (at the discretion of the director)
Repertoire ranges from sacred and novelty numbers to classic band literature.
Tone Chimes (ages 12-adult) – Similar to hand bells, this group is good for students who read music and would like an ensemble experience. Two levels may be offered if needed.
Orchestra (adults are welcome to play) – Two levels are offered for those who play violin, viola, cello, string bass and harp. Literature ranges from standard orchestral works to sacred and lighter numbers. Each group performs at least two concerts a year.
Cadet Orchestra – entry level – end of Suzuki Book 1/early Book 2 or comparable method
Chamber Orchestra – Suzuki Book 4 or 5 on up This group also makes up our Symphonic Orchestra.
Private lessons on the following instruments are also available – piano, accordion, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone/euphonium, tuba, cello and beginning guitar. Voice lessons are also offered. We can connect you to teachers for violin and viola. Please contact us early about lessons as teacher availability may vary. Students who take private lessons will progress much faster and will reach a higher skill level. Lessons are highly encouraged.
This program also offer two drama groups:
Young Thespians (grades 4-7) – Students learn basic acting techniques.
Classic Players (grades 8-12) – This class focuses on continuing improvement in basic acting techniques and character development.
These groups perform one major production in the spring. our focus is on classic literature. Plays done in the past include “Nicholas Nickleby”, “Cheaper By the Dozen”, “Our Miss Brooks”, “Anne of Avonlea”, “Frumpled Fairy Tales” and many more.
Class size is limited and auditions required (for new students) for participation. Please register early for drama (by August 31) to schedule your audition.
